Dental Assisting: A Career that Uses Your Compassionate Nature

Dental Assisting: A Career that Uses Your Compassionate Nature

Written by: Dr. Jodi Danna, D.D.S.

I knew from the time I was 13 that I wanted to be a dentist. While going to school at night, I worked in a dental office for 9 years as a dental assistant. It was truly one of the best jobs I could have had. I was empowered to work with patients, get to know them, be a part of their lives and ultimately make a difference in their world.

Dentistry to those of us not immersed in it is scary to the “lay person”. My role with the patient allowed me to comfort them and help them get through their treatment. My role as the right hand of the dentist allowed me to be a vital part of the everyday processes of the office. I was fortunate to have a boss that mentored me and encouraged me to be the person I am now to my patients. I was a great dental assistant and I am prideful of that.

I feel that I am a better dentist because of the experiences that I had as a dental assistant. I love working with my team. Their clinical skills are exceptional but their true excitement about their job makes me happy to come to work every day. Not only am I thankful for me, but I hear it with our patients. My team’s attention to detail and dedication given to our patients ensures them we are there for them.

If you want a job that allows you to use your compassionate nature and you want to be a vital part of the dental field, then dental assisting is a great career.
